A Call for Canvassers & Supporters
*** If you are willing to give a few hours canvassing in your locality or anywhere for that matter over the next few weeks then please contact me by private mail. If you are willing to help with our Facebook campaign or our video campaign then get in touch also. Many hands make little work! Please also share this status with your friends and family because we really do need all the support we can get from all over the constituency. Thank You :) ***
As many of you will know, I am contesting the Roscommon-South Leitrim Bye Election which is likely to be called for October 10th, 2014. This is an election to fill the vacated seat of Luke 'Ming' Flanagan who has been elected to the European Parliament.
We have built a great team so far and are growing every day as support flows in from all parts of the constituency and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all, but now the time has come to start knocking on doors and letting the people of the constituency know what we're all about.
We face the might of the monolithic party political machines that are Fianna Fail and Fine Gael who have pre-packed supporters in every town and village across the constituency and beyond. Given that this is the first time I am contesting an election, and as an Independent, I don't have the organisation on the ground that they have, yet.
That is why I am appealing to the people of Roscommon & South Leitrim; If you are happy to see Fianna Fail or Fine Gael take a seat in this by-election then so be it, but if you're not... If you're a little bit sick and tired of broken promises, cronyism and party politics that has neglected rural Ireland for decades then I am asking for your support.
What Is The Reality of This By-Election -
If you are willing to give me a chance, give youth a chance, then maybe we can use this opportunity to take a stand and send a message to Fianna Fail & Fine Gael that we do not want to return the the politics of yesterday. That we want move away from the revolving door of a predominantly two party system where-by we all forget the atrocities of yesterday on the soon to be broken promise of a better tomorrow.
This election will not affect the structure of government. The elected candidate will have limited ability to do anything, in real terms whoever is elected will be a glorified place-holder for 18 months until the 2016 general election, but symbolically this election is so much more than that. It is a referendum on the party political system that has lead a once proud country to it's knees and has allowed corruption infest it's core. It is an opportunity for the people of Roscommon & South Leitrim to send a message loud and clear to Dublin that we won't buy into the soft-talk of parties that have lied to us before and will continue to do so in the future. It's an opportunity to make it clear that we don't want to be represented by “yes people” that have been selected by the party hierarchy because they look-good on paper. It is an opportunity to effect some real change in how government treats us.
We have the votes. It's time for us to use them.
